Have you ever thought what made Airbnb succeed? Why people suddenly began renting out parts of their home to strangers? Would YouTube had been as popular if it was launched in a period of low broadband penetration?

This brings one to think- Is an ‘Idea’ the most important aspect?

I came across an interesting session by Bill Gross, founder Idealab. After dealing with the community for years, Gross got curious about why some succeeded and others failed. To find an answer, he gathered data from hundreds of companies (his own and other people’s) and ranked each company on five key factors – Idea, Team, Business Model, Funding and Timing. His findings, of course, were surprising!  Learning is that one must look if consumers are ready to take what you offer them.
